Custom Restorations and Cosmetic Enhancements

Tyler-Dental-Crown-and-Bridge

Restorations and cosmetic enhancements are custom solutions to dental imperfections. For instance, a dental crown can be used to rebuild and reshape a damaged tooth. Crowns are cap-like restorations that fit over a tooth’s surface above the gum line. If a person chooses porcelain for his or her crown, it will blend seamlessly into one’s smile without looking conspicuous or unnatural. All that others will see is a healthy looking tooth.

Enhancements are another avenue for addressing dental imperfections like stained, jagged, misshapen, or chipped teeth. Porcelain veneers are cosmetic enhancements that are permanently bonded over the front surface of teeth. A veneer is a shell-like, tooth-shaped, and ultra-thin enhancement. Since it is custom made to fit over a specific tooth, it will provide a natural looking, beautiful improvement to one’s smile.

Teeth Whitening

A professional teeth whitening treatment is a great way to achieve a radiant, youthful appearance. Our practice uses the KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching System. This whitening solution relies on oxygen to lift deep, dark stains. Whitening your teeth is simple, too. Our dentist will use impressions of your bite to produce custom trays. These trays are comfortable and will fit perfectly over teeth. The whitening solution is placed inside the trays and the trays are worn over teeth while one sleeps. In about 14 days, treatment is complete. The KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching System can lighten teeth dramatically without harming tooth structure.

COMMON cosmetic dentistry QUESTIONS

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry addresses aesthetic issues that affect a person’s smile. There are different types of cosmetic treatments – some non-invasive and some minimally invasive. When performing cosmetic treatments, the objective is to improve the appearance of one’s smile by concealing or restoring noticeable dental imperfections.

In order for cosmetic dentistry to appear natural, a very individualized approach must be taken. Not only are cosmetic treatments very custom and tailored to the individual, a combination of procedures can be used to produce desired results. For example, some patients with various types of dental imperfections might benefit from receiving a combination of porcelain restorations and professional teeth whitening.

If you are interested in improving your appearance with cosmetic dental treatments, call our practice to reserve a smile makeover consultation with our dentist. At your appointment, we will discuss your smile needs, answer your questions, perform an examination, and explain your treatment options.

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a restoration that has cosmetic benefits when natural looking materials are chosen to fabricate it. Dental crowns are cap-like restorations that fit over a damaged tooth to protect it. Crowns fit over the biting surfaces of teeth and down all their sides.

A dental crown is custom made in a dental laboratory so that it perfectly fits over the tooth it’s covering. When patients choose white materials like porcelain for their crowns, they will enjoy a very lifelike enhancement to the appearance of a tooth. When used to improve the appearance of a tooth, a crown can cover intrinsic and extrinsic tooth stains, chips, cracks, and other unsightly imperfections. Patients with worn dentition can benefit from receiving multiple crowns. A series of crowns can rebuild a person’s occlusion and greatly improve the appearance of his or her smile.

What is a veneer?

A veneer is an enhancement that is permanently bonded over the front side of a tooth so that a tooth appears free of flaws. Veneers are razor-thin, tooth-shaped pieces of porcelain. While a veneer is not a restoration, it does provide excellent coverage for dental flaws – especially those that are just cosmetic in nature. When multiple veneers are bonded over teeth, a person can achieve the results of a total smile makeover. This is a great option for those who have imperfections caused by various factors. Veneers do require minimal tooth preparation to place and are considered a permanent enhancement to teeth.

I have sensitive teeth; can I still whiten my teeth?

Tooth sensitivity is a common issue. Many folks have found that using over the counter whitening products increases tooth sensitivity. Most of the time, the heightened sensitivity is caused by harsh abrasives used in whitening formulas. These abrasives are intended to help scrub away surface stains when brushing but with prolonged use, abrasives can wear down tooth enamel and permanently damage it. Unstable formulas and overuse of store-bought products can also contribute to increased sensitivity. Fortunately, not all whitening options are created equal. Having your teeth professionally whitened under the care of a dentist will not lead to the development of permanent tooth sensitivity.

Our practice utilizes the revolutionary KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching System. This system has a unique formula that uses oxygen to lift discoloration. This whitening option comes with custom-made trays fabricated from molds of your tooth. The KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching System allows patients to whiten their teeth in the comfort of one’s home. Those using this system will simply apply the bleaching solution to the trays and wear them over teeth while sleeping for approximately two weeks.

Whether you’d like a small color correction or need multiple implants, there is the perfect cosmetic dentistry option out there for you.
